Assemble at the airport for your flight to Skopje – the capital of Macedonia.
Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for check-in, before enjoying some free time at your own leisure.
Make your way to the UNESCO-recognised Lake Ohrid. Visit Samuil’s Fortress and walk along its historic 4th-century walls, then see the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid, built in the Hellenistic style. Walk up the cliff-top Church of St. John at Kaneo for a panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding mountains, before paying a visit to the Church of St. Sophia. You may wish to join an optional boat ride on the lake or an optional excursion to Sveti Naum Monastery – an imposing Byzantine structure on the bluff that was rebuilt between the 16th and 17th century.
After your breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some free time to explore Lake Ohrid on your own. After that, proceed to Skopje and begin a walking tour in the old part of the town, where you can view the Stone Bridge. Local sights that are not to be missed include the Sveti Spas Church, famous for its exquisite iconostasis from the 17th century, the Old Bazaar, Fortress Kale and Mustafa Pasha Mosque. During the tour, we will also visit the Memorial House of Mother Teresa.
After breakfast, proceed to Prizren for a historic tour that will bring you to see Prizren House, the Stone Bridge, Sinan Pasha Mosque, the Ethnographic Museum and the Old Town. Continue on to Prishtina or Priština, the capital and largest city of Kosovo. The city has a majority Albanian population, alongside other smaller communities. The sightseeing tour will bring you to see the Newborn Monument, Skanderbeg Statue and the Pedestrian Street of Prishtina.
In the morning, you will travel to the Rila Mountains to visit the famous Rila Monastery. The beautiful orthodox monastery was built in the 14th century and houses valuable paintings, thousands of manuscripts, old printed books and masterworks of wood carvings. Head towards Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. In the evening, enjoy a dinner at a local restaurant, complete with folklore music performances.
Kick-off the day with a city tour of the Bulgarian capital city. In the heart of Sofia, visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Boyana Church, a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church situated on the outskirts of Sofia. In 1979, the building was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. After lunch, drive to Veliko Tarnovo. Visit the Tsarevets Fortress and explore the medieval stronghold on foot. Then, stop by the Asenevtsi Monument, which was erected exactly 800 years after the city was appointed capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire to commemorate the Tsars for their contributions to the city.
Today, cross the border into Romania as you drive through the heart of the Carpathian Mountains to arrive in Sinaia. Visit the Peles Castle, possibly the most beautiful castle in Eastern Europe. Built in 1883, Peles Castle is a masterpiece of German-Renaissance architecture. Enjoy some free time to explore at your own leisure in the afternoon.
Drive to Bran and visit the famous Bran Castle, best known as Dracula's castle from Bram Stoker’s famous novel. Trace Dracula’s footsteps as you explore the eerie corridors and deathly cold rooms at your peril. Afterwards, you'll find a souvenir and local crafts market – this is the place to get your Dracula-inspired souvenirs. Then, transfer to the medieval city of Brasov, also called the Crown of Transylvania. Go on a sightseeing tour to discover the colourful Old Town and the Council Square, before viewing the magnificent façade of the Black Church, Romania’s largest Gothic church that looms triumphantly over the old town of Braşov.
Join a sightseeing tour of Sighisoara, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. See the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, Scholar’s Stairs, Venetian House and Hermann Oberth Square. Next, travel to Sibiu, the biggest medieval city in Romania. Embark on a walking tour to visit the Evangelical Church, Council Tower, Liar’s Bridge and Brukenthal Palace. Then, continue on to the sixth largest city of the European Union – Bucharest for the night.
This morning, a city tour will take you to important sights such as the Arch of Triumph, Victory Square, Roman Square and the Unification Square.
